Dakota Experience

It's usually a good turnout at a session of Dakota Experience in the Diocese. Clergy new to the Diocese, members of Ministry Teams, those seeking ordination, and many other interested people devote a long and fascinating weekend to learn about another culture, and about themselves.

The Rev. Paul Sneve helps participants explore Native American (and specifically L/Dakota) culture, history, spirituality, tradition, and the impact of white imperialism, church mission work, and the reservation system on them.

Two sessions are held each year.

The next regular sessions are scheduled for

Dakota Experience West

March 16-17, 2012

Emmanuel, Rapid City

Dakota Experience East

November 2-3, 2012

Calvary Cathedral, Sioux Falls

Both Facilitated by The Rev. Paul Sneve

It is a required session for all clergy new to the diocese, for those in the ordination process, and for elected or appointed leaders of diocesan committees, commissions, agencies, or boards. It helps satisfy the anti-racism training mandated by General Convention.

It is recommended for anyone (white or Native) interested in learning/ sharing about the Lakota way of life. Native Americans comprise over half the Episcopalians in the Diocese of South Dakota, and ministry improves when we can meet, know, and understand each other.

Costs: Your travel, lodging in the area (if applicable), and $30 to help cover meals during the conference and materials.

Registrar: Pat Woolley at 605-842-2033
